About Rosendo

Our lives were changed when our precious angel, Rosendo was born November 12, 2004.  He came into this world with his eyes wide open and brought so much joy to everyone that saw him.  Rosendo did not show any signs of problems until he was 4 1/2 months old.  Up until then he was babbling, laughing, rolling, carrying his weight on his arms.  Everything that a normal baby should be doing.  He caught a virus and was sick for 10 days.  After that, we never had the same child again.  He stopped rolling, smiling, laughing, babbling... everything just stopped.  It would be almost 2 years later, February 9, 2007, until we got a diagnosis.  Our hearts were broken when we were told he had Cytochrome C Oxidase Deficiency aka Complex IV and Cox Deficency, a type of Mitochondrial Disease.  In every person the symptoms are different.  My son suffers from chronic congestion, aspiration, severe GERD, growth issues, muscle weakness, vision impairment, has seizures, myoclonus, has problems digesting food, and several other issues.  My son is fed continuously 24/7 through a feeding tube because he cannot swallow food.  Every 6 months he has a full checkup to make sure his organs are not giving out.
